Hi there, I have a GS430 w/1850 mi. on it and I recently noticed that when I get on the gas hard, I've noticed a slight burning smell as if I caught a plactic bag on my exhaust (which I don't have). Does anyone have a similar problem or does anyone know what may be causing this?? I have no mods on the car (as of yet). Thanks

I have not smelled anything unusual. I have about 3,500 miles on mine.

Are you chirping the tires any when you go hard on the gas.. If so its just the smell of burning rubber.. But for some reason I think this is too obvious.. If the smell continues just take it into the dealer and explain your problem.. I know when a catalytic convertor goes bad you get a burning smell from the exhaust.. Had that problem on a Chrysler Intrepid many moons ago..

Hope you figure it out.. When and if you do please post a reply to keep us informed..

I have not smell anything unusual either and I have about 2800 miles on my car. I tend to drive with my windows up most of the time anyway. Car is too nice and comfortable to leave the windows down

I think I know what smell you are talking about and its normal. My C5 had the same smell when I floored it. Though I never really smell it with the windows closed.

Yes, this is a normal smell. My 99 Toyota 4Runner has this as well and the dealer checked it out as fine.

I've been trying to accelerate hard again to duplicate the smell but I can't seem to do it unless I go at freeway speeds. I have only smelled this burnt scent twice (with the windows up) and both times it was at about 50mph under hard acceleration. The car feels really strong so I don't think that it can be any type of exhaust leaks or anything like that. Anyways, if/when I find out what this problem is, I will keep you guys posted. Thanks for the replies!

well it could be because the car is new and the exaust tends to do that in a new car when it heats up that happened to me when I put in the borla exaust system in mine it had that burning smell and after a while it goes away if it still keeps doing it then you should take it to the dealers and check it out

Default i know what that is

it's your car being broken in...there are a lot of new parts on the car that need to be broken in like the exhaust...transmission and engine....when you work them hard they get broken in faster(not necessarily a good thing) than normal resulting in that burning smell....most of that smell is the stuffing inside your mufflers...and the rest of that burning smell is coming from NEW OILS (i.e. transmission fluid, oil, brake fluid, power steering) that are finally heating up when you drive hard

hope that helps...nothing to worry about
