Are there any significant gains from a catback exhaust? I hear they are generally louder than just mufflers. Does the performance of the catback and mufflers differ? Has anyone had experience with the Blitz Nur Spec exhausts? Thanks.

B/c of the backpressure, a catback exhaust is theoretically supposed to increase performance, whereas a muffler could be as simple as just a different looking pipe, which would in that case only change the aesthetics of the exhuast.

You could gain by having an all stainless vs. alloy, or switching to a larger diameter. Not too much bigger or you'll really foul things up. I'm sure others with more experence can correct me, but 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 is probably okay, but any bigger jump you may actually lose performance unless you make other engine management systems mods as well.

Hey Andy,
Jazziz has a Blitz Nur Spec on his GS4. Having heard it I did not find it overly loud, and I'm not a fan of loud exhausts. Typically, you won't get a large hp increase from a cat-back, maybe 4 - 6 hp.

Presario,
I believe Greddy is one of two that sells a catback system. In my opinion, a catback system provides a little bit of a performance gain as compared to a muffler system but definitely NOT a bang-for-your buck mod.
HOWEVER, most muffler systems cost as much as a GReddy system which is a catback system. In this case, it becomes a more-for-your money mod.
Buying the H-pipe alone is probably not worth the cost. Removing the cats is another story but it is a legal no-no here in SoCal so I know you and I are in the same boat. WIth my previous car, the 300XZTT, replacing the cats with a testpipe yielded almost 15 extra HP on the dyno! So unless you are planning a turbo upgrade, removing cats is not worth it too especially in smog-conscience California!
