Default Red Film Tail Light Question...

I used the search function and all of the topics were related to the +01 tail lights. I have '98 tail lights and don't plan on buying new tails until I get the JP's.

This is a dark-red Photoshop layer overlayed on the 98 tails but I want to know if ANYONE has actually achieved this look.

How did you do it? Was it a success? Any problems? Long term look?

Thanks in advance.

Also, I found this place referred to in another thread. Has anyone used this film?

Darius,
That JP wing looks nice on your ride. I may have my old tails laying around. I'll check. They are all red except the small reverse section is left intact. I'll see if I can find them. I liked the look but preferred the '01+ tails w/ red tint film.

yes it looks great when its all red ...I did it w/ some red tint film from PEPBOYS ..the only thing is that I got some bubbles and after time they dont look to nice any more ..on my 01 tails I painted the amber red w/ jdm taillight spray and they look very good much better than the tint good luck... I also painted the 98-00 tails red after I took them off just to see how they look and they do look much better

have you done that top brake light mod ?

right now i believe when you step on teh brakes (or when youturn on the parking lights), only the bottom one will light up. but actually both the bottom and top bulbs are dual filaments. you can splice the wires and have both turn on at the same time

Lexism or GS Wanted - when you tint the with the red film do you tint the outside of the light or inside? Also do you do the whole light or just the middle orange section? I think I might try this today if its easy.

the tint is on the outside ...and its just the amber...there will some little collor difference but overal much better than having the amber tint ot paint .

My older tails weren't tinted they were painted red after the amber was removed. I guess painting over the amber should be pretty easy. I had it removed b/c I wanted to see how it looked clear first and then opted for the red look like Lexism's pics.

So in order to paint it, you would have to open the tail light and paint it from the inside? Sorry im new to this stuff.

No, you don't "have to" but I opted to in order to see the two different looks.
