I just bought 01 GS430 with origional sport package and sport tires. I thought 300hp would rip my tires up at the stop light, but no. I tried to spin my tires and peel out few times and the car just goes and then at about 3000 rpm it kicks in and it goes, fast. I heard there is a lag on these cars but is it that bad like mine? Or I need this checked out? I tried to put the switch on POWER and turn the VSC off and still could not do it. Car was checked out by mechanic and it is fine? What do I need to do? Any suggestions? I also have K&N air filter in it. Came with the car.

I am in the same boat. If you check my previous post (GS 430 fast? Hmmm), i question the actual power of my gs 430. When it takes off, my car's power does not kick in until second gear . When I am on the express-way, the car is a beast, but around town, it seems sluggish. i also had my Gs checked and it is fine. I have 58,000 mile on it. The car is so nice, I am beginning to ignore the power and I have had the car for a year.

Turn the traction control off... if you powerbrake a bit from a dead stop or hit it coming around a corner at slow speed, the rear tires will go up in smoke. I smoked my 285/30-20 rears pretty good just last night... all the way WELL into second gear.
Be advised, if it is wet out or you are on an unfamiliar road, leave the TCS on. It's there for a reason... you can get these cars out of shape even in dry weather if you're hammering the car with the TCS off- I have had mine WAY out of shape on more than one occasion... full-opposite lock at 40 mph in a 3800 lb. can can be exciting. Already been there...

I have no problem braking the rears loose and I am on brand new Pilot Sports...
Try reseting the ECU by pulling battery power. Also, when coming to a complete stop mash the brakes hard and preload the front suspension somewhat... makes for a bigger wieght transfer on takeoff which usually gives a bigger push to the rears and increases off the line acceleration... or at least it always works for me... I don't know the "term" for doing this but it does help.

first of all there is no sport package for the car so i don't know what you have?
but anyway, reset the ecu and you should be able to chrip the tires
if not, just power brake the car to 3000 rpm and drop the brakes, you will chirp for sure
make sure you turn off vsc too

I just put on my 18 inch Salinas, went up the block, and easily spun both rears... granted, they only have about 20% tread left but I had no problem doing this with my 17's either with brand new rubber...
