Default Hey Im New

Hi guys/gals I am very intrested in buying a lexus gs 300.. i am thinking about getting one from the dealer used (of Course) or buying one from my boy who is actually a member of this forum (johnGS4) but i would like to see if you all wouldnt mind sharing some information about the car with me. i want to knwo about the reliability of the car, speed horsepower, you know things like that so if someone might share some info with me that would be apreciated.

P.S. I currently have a 2002 Acura TL i LOVE THE CAR but it has a faulty tranny and i am sick and tired of bringing it in to get new ones put on (and they are actually refurbushed) I have 70k and the extended warranty ends for the tranny @ 100k so i plan on letting this tranny blow getting a third one put in and lemon the car out, thats my story. thanks again

Kenny, Wusup bro. I'll do a search and then paste some info on here. Also, what you are looking for is a 2nd Generation GS. Mods will move this to the Second Generation forum, where you will get tons more responces, since that is what you are looking for.

PS, Since you're in DE and shopping, I'd highly suggest you sign up for the big east coast meet in August (19, main meet on 20th, 21) where you can check out some of the east coast's most heavily modified GSs. Think we already have four supercharged ones coming + a twin turbo.

www.lexfest.net for info and to sign up. If you don't have your GS yet, just put a stock picture of one up when you sign up so we know to count you for food, etc. You just won't be able to park a non-Lexus with the rest of the show but you're welcome to check everything out.

Nice to see some people from Delaware here. I am about to go back up to Delaware in about 2 weeks for vacation. I need to get a car which I also want a 2nd Gen GS300 to take the trip but the selection in AL is horrible which means I will need to drive a couple hours to or near Atlanta GA to get what I want which I don't really want to do. The 2nd Gen GS300 should be very reliable if it has been maintained proplerly. It is very well built from one the best if not the best plant in the world and there are few issues with this car. Check for moisture in the headlights, rough idle, sunroof/interior rattles, head gaskets which seem to be the more common issues as well as everything else you would normally check for in a used car.

I am sorry about your TL. It is strange because my parents own a TL and CL and have never had an issue with them and everyone I know with them has never had an issue but I have read on the internet of some people going through 2 or 3 trannies here and there. The GS300 puts out 220hp from a 3 liter inline six. Your TL even the non type S will be quicker and feel more powerful then the GS300. This is due mainly because the GS300 is a bigger heavier car with a smaller slightly less powerful engine. Unfortunately the inline six gets pretty poor gas mileage considering its size and power so your TL will be alot better on gas also, I think the TL gets 29-30mpg highway where the GS300 gets around 24mpg. If your into modding there is plenty to do to the inline six to get it to perform much better though. You may want to check out a GS400 or GS430 if power is a concern since it gets pretty close gas mileage to the 6 clylinder but it will cost you more to buy and insure.

Luckily you are on the east coast in Delaware where you have a good selection and can get them at much better prices then down in the south. Good luck and keep us posted.

welcome man. I've had buddies with the same tranny issues as you. its sad, they get a replacement one put in and in about 2 months they go back for another. my boy says he drives the car soft cuz he's scared what might happen. its a shame cus i always like the style of that car. i was going to buy a blue one before i found my blue gs. i love blue well anyway if you get one you'll be one happy camper. good luck.
