Need advice on new rims.

I have a GS 430 with stock 17" wheels. I am thinking about upgrading to 18x8.5 Front, 18x9.5 Back. As far as styles go, I like the look of the Altstadt Type I (silver) and Manaray VR5 exe. These wheels look very similar, does anyone have any feedback on either wheel? What are the differences between the two?
Also, going from 17's to 18's my assumptions are as follows, let me know if I am way off;
- 18's look better
- 18's handle better
- Larger lower profile tires will cost $10-$20 more ea.
- 18's have a rougher ride
- 18's will not last as long, 15-25K miles (17's, 20-30K?)
- 18's provide less cushion/protection for rims from potholes
Thanks,

That design is nice but kinda played-out. And now it's nothing too special. Maybe try something else? Like other Manaray Sports wheels?
- 18's look better --------- yah
- 18's handle better --------- hm, depends on tire
- Larger lower profile tires will cost $10-$20 more ea. --------- maybe even more
- 18's have a rougher ride --------- yah
- 18's will not last as long, 15-25K miles (17's, 20-30K?) --------- depends on the tires
- 18's provide less cushion/protection for rims from potholes --------- yah, if you're worried about this then you should get some strong wheels like forged wheels.

Agreed with Globe...style is a little old...but it's a good style (like the Equips!) I would go with the Altstadts instead (even though my handle is Manaray...)
In addition to what Globe has already posted...
18" does look better than 17"...but I think 19" or 20" looks good on the GS.
18" setups (with low profiles tires) do handle better if you're comparing the same tires (brand/model).
Larger, wider, lower profile tires will cost more than $10 or $20...
18" tires won't ride that much worse than the 17's...
18", depending on the tire, might last longer than the stock 17's.
The lower the sidewall height is, the more likely it is to damage the rim . It's really simple though, just void pot holes.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you recommend some other rim styles that haven't gotten too played out? I like the deep lip look. If possible, please recommend some sites where I can find pics.

Sites..
Here are a couple you can look up:
www.wholesalewheel.com
www.tirerack.com
www.wheelmax.com
www.wheelenhancement.com
www.precisioninstallations.com
www.wheelwarehouse.com
As I said in my previous post, I just purchased a set of 19" EVO's from TIRERACK. I think 19" or 20" is the way to go. 18" is a bit small for the GS.
Another rim that I really like is the Zennetti Vega: http://www.wholesalewheel.com/VEGA_CHROME.jpg - it's so choice..

Also don't forget about the weight of the rims might effect your performance. Heavier rims tend to slow you down a bit. One of the light weight rims I know is RegaMaster. Check out the web site. (sorry, it's in Japanese)

That would be very cool to be able to void pot holes. We'd be driving along, press a button, and VOILA pothole has been voided...
Sorry, Friday humor, very bored...

yah they don't. Largest is 18x10.5.
Even tho there's a 10.5, it still doesn't have much lip because they just make the spokes expand out.
BIGGEST LIP WHEELS: Manaray Sports Vertec VR5 QUEST. (I might get those......... looks so nice with lips.)
