the reason why i brought this up also is because before purchasing this 300,, like many other people in this world who dont know too much about the 300 and 400, purchased the 300 thinking the gas is gonna be better than a v8,,, everybody hears v8 and jumps to the conclusion that gas is horrible,,,,,, well if i know that it got better gas mileage than the inline 6 i would have paid the extra money for the 400......... anybody else feel this way too before purchasing a gs

My 01 GS3 is right around 8200 RPM @ 80mph. The most mpg i've ever got is right between 23-24mpg on my way down to SD. Other then that I usually get between 18-19mpg

well, lexus also put up the gas mileage EPA on the sticker, 18 23 for the v8 and 18 24 for the i6. that says a lot too

Guyz..... total wheel and tire height will affect the rpm numbers.

For those who posted up rpm figures....what size wheels and tires you got?

Theoretically....dubs and 19s with fat tire setup will give you lower rpms vs. 19s or 18s with low profile setup. Also...your spedometer will also be off a bit....if you did not have it re-calibrated.

no it shouldn't. coz' your speedo is off as well. the speedo and the rpm guage should be correspondent to each other. i think that's a good measurement.

for those with 20s or fat in the back, i don't think we have other means of getting the "right" speed when driving

so basically when my speedo says 80mph, the rpm is about 3000rpm. but actually i am going at around 84mph (real speed, but inside the car i wont' know)

even if i put back the 17s stock, when it says 80mph, the rpm will still be 3000rpm. and yes i will be going at 80mph pretty precise

my car is totally stock except for a k&n filter and I get about 22-24mpg mixed driving(a little more freeway than city, but I am a spirited driver) I don't know what it is at 80, but when I am at 90, I just hit 3000 rpms. I think that's pretty good, I drove a jetta one day and at 70 the thing was at 4000rpms. btw, i have a 99 gs400

Yep, that is right in keeping with what the rest of us have been saying. Stock setup GS400 in 5th gear : 30mph for every 1000 RPM. So, you do the math.

RPM MPH
2000 60
2500 75
3000 90
3500 105
4000 120

I Have a 98 GS400 when I’m Cruising at 80MPH My RPM is at 3000 Exactly I Know it’s not normal from what I’m seeing but I wanna know how I can bring it down or fix the issue of it.

1) Make sure the speedometer is correct (one mile at an indicated 60 mph should take one minute - check with highway mile markers).
2) Check to see if the the rear end gear ratio has been changed.
