Default Am I hearing things or ...

Am I hearing things or does the GS400 honk on its own?

On more than one occassion now, my friend's 99 GS400 seems to honk its horn during panic stops. On the first occassion that I remember, a car cut in front of me and I hit the brakes hard. I heard a honk at about the same time I hit the brakes. Today, I was driving too fast and when the cars in front hit their brakes, I slammed on the brakes too. There was a honk also. In both instances where I remembered (or noticed), the horn sounded exactly the same. When I looked around, there were no one-fingered salutes, so I'm assuming it wasn't someone else's horn.

Does the GS400 automatically honk its horn during panic stops?

LOL......................I know that there is a beeping sound when the vehicle is starting to loose traction on a turn for example. Don't know about the beeping for hard or panic stops though

where do you place your hands on the steering wheel when you drive? i've seen some people hold their steering wheel with their palms around the E-shift buttons. that might cause honking.

I recall that on a Honda Accord I once owned the center nut that held the steering wheel in place was too tight. This would cause the car to beep when ever I would press hard agaisnt the steering wheel even though I was not pressing down on the horn.

Im not sure if the Lexus system is similar as far as holding the steering wheel in place, but if you have recently had some work done on your steering wheel or had it replaced, you may want to look into this posibility.

Good Luck
