I would like to upgrade to the new wood and leather wheel or possibly the perforated leather wheel. Is this possible? If so, where could I get one and for how much do you think? I may have to call salvage yards and offer my SW + cash for one..

yes you can put the steering wheel on, but the airbag won't work. it's different shape. the new shape, you can only get the 2001 rx300 airbag if you want it to work (the newer ones are dual stage, yours is single).

it's not going to be cheap at all though, unless you got really lucky

Better option which allows you to use your original airbag and keep your tiptronic shift buttons is to send your steering wheel to American Stitches in Texas. They will add wood and replace the leather (can have perforated if you want I believe) for about $400. Replacing the steering wheel and air bag will cost several times that amount.
