I'm looking to put my music collection into my car and stumbled upon this adaptor for your iPod that allows you to keep your factory radio unit.
Here's how it works...
http://www.cartv.com/content/researc..._Tip/pagenum/1
Now I'm interested and would like to buy one so I search this site for it's availablity for my 98' GS400.
http://********************/default.asp
It doesn't come up with any results, but says it's availablefor the 2001+ GS models. So my question now is, are 01'+ CD changers/head units different from 98-00? TIA.

What amazes me about the iPod adapters is that they are as expensive as the iPod units themselves. Seems ludicrous to me.
BTW, you didn't say if your GS has Nakamichi, Navigation, or the regular "Lexus Premium Sound" head unit. Depending on which you have, it may (or may not) be compatible with the 01+ cars.

ipod compatibility in cars is going to become a must (If it isn't already). I love the the ability of having thousands of songs at your fingertips.. I thought I was in heaven with my Alpine 12 disc changer. But iPod is pure Nirvana. How bad do these FM modulators sound?? It would be great to see ipod track listings in the Nav or even standard stereo LCD display.

I have a Nakamichi system with a 6 disc changer. I just realize that site didn't even ask that. I'm currently using a PDA with 1 GB MMC card with a tape adaptor. 1GB of songs for me just isn't enough, and all the cables in the cabin looks messy.
Well it said the kit is available for 2001+ GS models but doens't show anything for the 98-00. Does anyone know if they're different? Would a 01'+ disc changer be compatible with a 98-00?

For what this device costs, they could easily have made it pass the CD changer through when the iPod's not playing. It really wouldn't have been difficult...and I'd actually buy one.
Cassette is still the most economic solution, a good compromise of ease, cost and fidelity, and it actually is an obsolete interface.
I want to keep my cd changer, thanks...
Vias Technology's AVIC-100i allows connection in addition to the CD Changer. But $600 is just insane unless you need the AV integration, which is admittedly awesome.

IN my experience the modulators are terrible. I have an itrip and it's a pain. Sounds like crap at best if you give even a tiny crap about sound.

it looks like the strictly audio adapter from the listed site ^^^is $289...not cheap but much better than $600. And you would be able to get sat. radio plugged in.
