Default 98-00 and 01-05 GS different body style?

went to Lexus dealership today looking for either 04 Sport Design HID headlights or just the housings.... anyway the parts manager told me that the 98 and the 04 were a different body style? I asked "how are they different?" and his response was "they just are..." It seemed as if he was irritated by me questioning his "expertise"...

can anyone confirm or dispute this?

will 04 GS headlights fit a 98? I don't see why they wouldn't

BTW the part numbers for the 98 housings ONLY are:

81130-3A150 - $356.57
81179-3A470 - $356.57

I am thinking about buying these and then opening them and painting them the titanium color myself...because my headlights are starting to turn yellow....I don't know why they didn't just mak e them glass.

They will fit, I have the titanium sportdesign in my 98 GS400. Plug and play

See if he'll bet you 75% off the cost of the headlights if he's wrong

EDIT you may change your mind once you find out the cost of the sportdesign lights (they come with bulbs included)... quite pricey. Search for 'sportdesign titanium' for threads on this subject and other nice options that are less expensive including a darker chrome version.

He's a manager???
If that's what he said by saying the 98 and 04 won't fit, he deserves this
Body has been the same since 1998, of course the newer green tint for 01+.
Check the vendor section, classifieds or put up a "want to buy" for a much better price.

That's weird of him.

The housings did change with different years but they should all be interchangeable. The only part that is not is HID vs Halogen, but this is only about functionality and not fitment.

He quoted me 1247 each for the SD's....that is everything included...

What did you pay for yours? yours don't look as dark as the ones I want .....look at this one...

That sounds about right for Lexus list, check with our CL vendors for better prices than that

Mine are exactly the same as Dr G's lights... keep in mind my car is black (which is darker than the SD lights) and his is white (lighter than the SD lights) so appearance varies with car color and exposure / lighting condition of the photos.

oh yeah my windows are black and I am probably getting BLACK rims with a chrome lip...

Like I said - do some research for the dark chrome lights vs the titanium SD version. IMO they'll look nearly as good at 20% of the new cost of the SDs.

If you *really* want the SDs, get 'em (I did) but I didn't do enough digging to know about the over model I'm recommending here. I would have bought them instead and saved some significant coin.

sorry to bump this up, rather do it than start a whole new thread.

just wondering if the GS3/4 in the US comes w/ OEM side skirts that are single piece or four pieces? i want to get some new (used) ones from wreckers. they only have the four piece off a 99 2GS. i'm pretty sure they will fit my 02 GS430 because the body (98-05)hasn't changed. just want a single piece skirt instead :P

All the side skirts from 98-05 are exactly the same. Each side is a 2 piece construct to make one side.

But be aware the 1999 Alpine Silver is going to be a slightly different color than your millenium silver 02 if you're getting one from a 'silver' GS.

yup! thanks. my current skirts and front & rear caps have this crazy ashphalt-like crud on them. i dont know if any of that detailing stuff can get rid of it.

You hit it on the nose. The OEM replacement from Lexus were the L-Tuned ones. These, as well as the aftermarket ones, are one piece.
