Default Help!!??

Hi guys, I'm in the middle of replacing my timing belt and water pump. When I bought my parts I was told that I would not need a gasket for the water pump other than the black silicone gasket that I'd apply myself. So, last night as I pulled the water pump out I noticed an aluminum looking gasket attached to the water pump. The water pump I bought from Carson Toyota didn't come with a gasket so my question is (as my Lexus sits disassembled in my garage) whether I can use the silicone or if I have to somehow get the gasket?

The local Lexus dealer won't sell the gasket seperately or they at least don't have it in so I'd have to buy the whole water pump which costs almost twice as much as the one I got from Carson.

What do you think? Do I need to get the aluminum gasket or will the silicone gasket do the job? Any help would be appreciated.

Default Yes, it says...

Well, call me an idiot. I do have the service manual I jsut overlooked looking for this key information!! Here's what it says...

B02602
Seal Width
2 – 3 mm
1. INSTALL WATER PUMP
(a) Remove any old packing (FIPG) material and be careful
not to drop any oil on the contact surfaces of the water
pump and cylinder block.

Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all
the old packing (FIPG) material from the gasket sur-faces
and sealing groove.

Thoroughly clean all components to remove all the
loose material.

Using a non–residue solvent, clean both sealing
surfaces.
(b) Apply seal packing to the water pump as shown in the il-lustration.
Seal packing: Part No. 08826–00100 or equivalent

Install a nozzle that has been cut to a 2 – 3 mm (0.08
– 0.12 in.) opening.

Parts must be assembled within 5 minutes of ap-plication.
Otherwise the material must be removed
and reapplied.

Immediately remove nozzle from the tube and rein-stall
cap.
I assume that the seal packing is the silicone but I'm not sure.
