A crappy TTE Lip install
#16
The update is that I may go to another body shop and they will repaint my TTE lip and half of my bumper and do a semi-mold for $300. It is International Auto Body that one of the members recommended and they seem to know what they are talking about. But I will probably take it to few other shops and see what they say. So now, it is going to end up costing me $400 to paint the TTE lip, install, and painting a grill. It's a bit over what I've expected to pay but I guess lesson learned. Anyhow, I paid Technics Auto Body in cash so unfortunately I cannot stop payment. However, I may consider going to a small claim court to get some $ back if i have the time for it....

i think its ok,you have to understand the way those things are shipped there bent, flexed and also the packaging aint so great . where they come from japan? but to me it looks ok ,aint nobody gonna get on there knees to look. you have to use the 1/4 inch double sided tape made buy 3m that should help.that lip looks good send me the link for that website, how much did it cost?

I don't know why I let a non-autobody shop do mine. It didn't turn out that great either. The left side looks like it's going to fall off and there are gaps here and there on the upper middle part. I could of complained but thought that there was little they could probably do get it off cleanly without messing the lip or my bumper up.

I say you threaten to report them to the Better Business Bureau if they
don't give you some of your money back. it might not work but it's at least worth
a try.
i really didn't notice anything from the first pic but the closeups show the story.
can we get some pics a bit farther away? good luck, man.

I used to think the BBB was a helpful place as well, but my experiences have been quite the opposite. It's been bad.
If you actually take it back to that same shop for a "mold" and repaint, you're just rolling the dice with several hundred dollars man. Don't do it.
Go to the place with experience in putting these parts on, the other place in San Bruno.
$400 is no small abount, but, you'll be looking great when it's all over and your car will be pimpin.
Lesson learned, and now your friends know too, stay away from that shop. (obviously)
Good luck man!

I just ordered my TTE lip and am having it painted at the Sewell Lexus but I figured I would install it myself. Does everyone have these lips installed by a body shop? Can it be done by myself? How exactly does it get installed? Sounds like glue, tape and screws?

I recall seeing a thread a while back about at DIY install, that included using your car jack to keep the tte lip pinned to the bumper overnight while the glue/bonding solution dried....
