does anyone know why this manual would be for 2002-2005 only? is there a 2001 GS430 manual or what?

Well, technically, it's only for 2005. It could be they mean the 430 vs. the 400 and have just gotten the year wrong; I've seen that other places (luxlink, for example).

I bought the same manual for my 2001. I haven't found any differences yet, and I've taken many things apart.

so I just ordered these. you guys don't think there is anything really different for an 01 do you?
I noticed at Sewell, they have a different part # for 01 manual than 02.

Bought the same manual for my 01 GS430, and so far everything applies. I too noticed that Sewell carried a different stock number, but I ordered anyway. Lexus advertises that the newer GS430s have dash mounted CD changers, and I expected that to be the only difference, but no, the manual doesn't even mention it. It only covers the glove-box changer. So, in a nutshell, as far as I can tell, it's 100% applicable to the 2001 GS430.
