well, there are several members here with 200k mi+ on their gs's, but their cars are religiously serviced or are mostly highway miles, hence my comment about service records... with good maintenance history it could be a keeper....

but are u buying a project (eg. pulling the motor for a 2z-gte) or is it because u can't afford anything better? hopefully not the latter because if something big does break it could easily cost 1/3 the price of this car, or more

that is a boat load of miles.... I would try to wait and hold off. Something better will come along you just have to be patient....Unless that is your budget and a project car thank do it But 200k would bother me everytime i looked down at the odomenter.... Good Luck my friend..

Default buy it...

buy it and do the following:

1) take the vehicle to a service shop that you trust for a complete service. like- have all the fluids flushed and changed. not just drain and refill.
2) swap out lower control arms and the ball joints - the ball joints seem to be an issue.
3) swap the timing belt.

All this should cost you about 1-2k at the very most. The car should run like new and you'll only be in the hole a total of $12,000.

Save up for parts in the future. When you buy replacement parts - you have to remember that you're buying replacement parts for a $52,000 car, not a $12,000 car.

Good luck.

you guys are just paranoid. heck, i've seen guys who are so paranoid, they are thinking their gs4's are going to die soon when they had 60k miles. the gs4 engine is designed to go longer than 200k. think about it, the first REAL scheduled tuneup is around 90-100k. 197k is about the 2nd tuneup. my gs4 is 120k and it feels as good as it was when it was good as new. i just burned a brand new 2006 TL this past weekend off the line. so don't worry and be happy. be good to your car, keep it maintained, and it'll do you good. you'd probably have to change the engine mounts on that car with that mileage tho, so check it up.
