Nav Speed Question

I dont know if anyone can answer this. Does the Nav in a 2002 GS 430 calculate the time to get to a destination based on how fast you are going. I know you can set the speed for freeways, surface streets, etc.
Here is a example. Let say your driving on the freeway and there is traffic. Obviously your not going the set speed so the time is going to be off. Does it recalculate the time based on the current speed.
Anyone know this?

I believe that the NAV calculates the time to reach your destination by using the average speed that's entered in the setup for the different types of roads (e.g., freeways vs. surface streets). The NAV knows how many miles of your trip will be on each type of road, and uses that information to calculate the time for the trip. I don't believe that the NAV uses your actual speed to estimate the time of the trip. However, I think that the NAV will recalculate the time remaining for the trip after your complete each portion of the trip, so if you completed the highway portion of the trip faster than the NAV thought you would, it will recalculate the time for the rest of the trip accordingly, based on the miles remaining and the average speed entered into setup for the type of road you'll be using.

I bought my 2001 GS430 with Nav from Colorado and drove it back to Dallas, Texas. The trip was about 98% highway. It adjusted the destination time all along the way. I don't know if it did it every 100 miles or 1 mile but it did constantly update the arrival time.

I also own a 2002 GS430. You have to go into setup and enter in your desired freeway, main road speed etc, and the estimated time of arrival is based on that. It does not calculate the time based on your current speed. good luck!
