good or bad deal?
This is the only color combo I want to buy..silver/black
1998 GS300
100k miles
$10k
Car is in good shape.... Looks like the VIN stickers on the hood and the trunk lid are missing . All other VIN stickers are intact. Assumptions are that it may have been in a small fender bender or something but who knows (fenders and quarter panels have VIN stickers). Other than that the car is in good shape.
So, what do you all think

Definitely Carfax it. Collision could have been minor or could be pretty bad . I had a pretty decent accident and my fender was repaired. although 10K is a good price.

I am still on the fence if I will pick this car up. I will see if the carfax comes back clean and then I will decide.
Regarding getting a GS400.... For some reason, I prefer the GS300... I guess it is b/c it has the same motor as my old supra and I know the motor will last forever..

All Lexus engines last forever. They get the same gas mileage, and the V8 is more fun. Unless you're doing FI, get a 400.
As for $10k, 100k and an accident, I'd keep looking. 100k puts a lot of faith in the previous owner(s).

I know the GS300 has a non-interference motor.
If the above two statements are correct, then I have pretty much made my mind up on going with a GS300.....maybe not the one listed above so, hopefully another Silver/Black GS300 pops up.

why, you plan on just driving it until the timing belt breaks?
if you don't plan to ever add Turbo or Blower, get a 400. at least drive one first, you'll see.

Yes, its a good price but I'd run from that deal with the vin stickers missing. Lexus owners usually know the value of their cars and price them accordingly. In the five months I spent looking for the right deal on a GS400 I literally looked at hundreds of them. I can tell you that in every instance the car that had that amazingly low price always ended up having had some sort of trouble, fender bender, bad title, etc. That's not to say that you can't get an amazing deal - there are people on this site who are a lot more experienced with these cars than I who have found such deals. I'd just be very very careful - you don't want something that's been in a wreck.
You really ought to drive a GS400 before you make the decision. I just bought a 98' GS400 after test driving both and the power difference is significant. Mileage with the GS300 is only slightly better than the 400 by about 1 mpg. I don't think that once you drive the 400 that you're going to want the 300.
Non-interference vs. interference shouldn't be an issue if you plan on doing regular maintenance on your car.
