What better ways to get advice on buying a GS other than asking the people who owns it?

The price has come down a lot (advertised as $14,700 now, down from $14,900). I'll probably be able to bring it down to $14,000
Although advertised as 119k miles, it actually has 117.5k. I guess they wanted to give a little headroom incase they couldn't sell it. I sat in it and everything was smooth. The tires have only 7k miles on them (Bridgestone tires costed him $600) and the timing belt was done. He kept almost all the receipt for the car.
On the outside, there are just some paint scratches, but they're very minor. I detail my own cars so its no problem. Like most others, I am more concerned about the mechanical parts. The car seems fine to me though. Nothing out of the blues. All electronics still works.
And yes people, I'm getting rid of that steering wheel cover if I get the car
It's the best price/mileage GS4 I could find within my area. Next best is a black on black GS4 for $15,700 with 129k miles. I'll probably skip that as it has too many miles for my taste (though i only drive 3k a year)
Any inputs/criticism would be nice.

14,700 is pretty high for the year and mileage of that car. I would shoot for 12K-12.5K. The GS400 is a great car but you are still buying a first year model with well over 100K miles. It is still a 7-8 year old car and even minor repairs or fixes that are common like moisture in headlights or door actuator problems will be expensive. You should get it checked by a trusted mechanic and Lexus dealer and if they say it is in good condition I would try for 12K, 12.5K tops. I guess in California car prices are higher then most of the U.S. but I still think you can do better then 14K for a 98 with no NAV/HID and 117K miles, especially since a new model design just came out. Good Luck

unfortunately, socal is full over overpriced cars. The only $12k cars I see here has about 160k miles, which is WAY too much.
All in all, I trust Lexus very much. My Acura legend had 150k before it was totaled. 117k on the lexus is still very young in terms of mechanical reliability.
I'll probably try to bring it down to 13.5k, but that's as low as I can probably get here in cali.
After driving BMW E36s, Acura TL-S, etc, I'm sold on the Lexus. It's just on a different class. I grew out of the sport compact car league. Time to let the public know how big my ***** are with the lexus![Big Grin](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
let me know if you guys have any other inputs!

I gotta agree with Chuck on this one. Some of that tack-on stuff could be really hard to remove (unless you prefer it, in which case you can leave it). I bought a 99GS4 with 65,000 miles for $16,650 a few months ago. I wouldn't worry so much about the miles -- these cars, if properly maintained, can go forever. If the car has an impeccable service history, then I might be persauded, but that price seems a little high for that year with those miles. Anyway, just my .02. Let us know what you decide to do.
