hello! i am new to the forums.

anyway, i am looking to purchase a 98+ lexus gs400. after a little research, i am looking to get the 98+ platinum series. just curious as to how rare these things are? i need the options that it offers. NAVI, HIDs, fogs, CD Changer, etc.

I am patiently waiting, and im guessing this car is very do-able under $20k. however, i did have a few questions. what is the main differences between each year gs400?? 98 to 99 to 00, etc?

i cant find a sticky or a newbie buyers guide using a search, so any help is appreciated.

one more question, I have seen the 5 spoke chrome rims. is that an option?
i am under the assumption that the platinum series has the 7 spoke rims.
i love the 5 spoke chrome. (looks almost like is300 rims)

I am coming from a 92 acura legend coupe, and before that a 91 mr2 turbo. this is the first car I am looking at financing instead of paying in full. i had a million questions that I am sure will come up, so any help is truly appreciated. thanks guy!

im more looking for the differences between 98, 99, 00, 01 GS400 only.

i am not into the 430. the 430 seems to be out of my price range.

i need to know if the platinum series is a rare car, if it can be found. in my area, i only found about 2 or 3.

i need the navi, HID that is standard in the platinum series. anyway, thanks, keep the help comin!

Hi Dino, the CPO model library doesn't list the differences in those years any longer other than 2000. So the difference between 2000 and 1999 can be found here (or on our forum if you searched for that link too )

Yes the platinum can be somewhat hard to find, but I wouldn't call it 'rare'. What is it about the platinum model that makes you want it? All of those things you list that come with it are pretty easy to find in other models

Platinum Series

- Bird's-eye maple interior trim and shift ****
- Perforated leather trim on center section of seats
- 16-inch, seven-spoke performance alloy wheels
- Black Pearl badging
- Platinum Series embroidered floor mats
- Power tilt-and-slide moonroof
- In-dash, six-disc CD auto-changer
- High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with dynamic auto leveling
- Heated front seats
- Large chromed exhaust tips


The only things that aren't easy to find in other trim levels (or swap out) are the bird's eye trim and the perforated seats. Plus the platinum comes with the wheels you don't like.
