Guys,
Let's get serious - I just had the wind taken out of me when I went to order a replacement key for a '98 GS4.

Good - googly - moogly, $231.74.

Anyone have any other sources for replacement?

Thank you,
Eric

That's about what I was quoted a few years ago for the "master" remote key as well.

Try Steve Ganz. He can probably get you the key. Then you have to go to the dealer to have them program it.

All I have to say on this subject is don't lose both MASTER KEYS (The one with the remote buttons) or it will cost you in excess of $1,000 because they have to replace the engine emobilizer computer and get you a new key package.. A buddy of mine got clipped with this because he and his wife lost both keys for their RX..

So even if you paid $200 for a master it's not too bad in retrospect.. Remember you drive a Lexus and like it or not everything is inflated.. A replacement key for a E-Class Benz is in excess of $500 USD from what my buddy in Seattle tells me.. Does anyone know if that is true or is he yanking my chain??

You can pick up used keys when they are on ebay for around 50-75 dollars.
You will have to have it rekeyed...

Ebay???

Used key is no good, the key need to be cut based on you VIN#

New key, uncut ==> where do you gonna get it cut? Lexus dealers order it directly from somewhere (probably from lexus headquarter) (pre-cut to your car) they just need to program it themself.

I've seen some key on ebay, does not seem like a good choice anyway...
just my .025cents

Does Mercedes have the keys with the seat and mirror functions built in, so if you give someone another key, their preferences are set when they put the key in the ignition ? Could that be the reason for the price inflation ?

Dealers can put a new head on the key to make it new again. Then they set it up for your car,
