Question When you replacing your timing belt, do you replace you water pump at the same time?

I will need to replace my timing belt in the coming weeks, do I need to change the water pump like most people said? What is others experience? I call Longo Lexus and the guys said that it depends. BTW, he quote me $600 for replacing the timing belt and about $950 with the belt and the 90K service combine, is that a good deal?

Thanks

My father's theory is that you wait until the water pump begins to leak, then replace the timing belt...but that's too much risk for most people.

So, high mileage GS drivers:
What is the likelihood of the water pump needing replacement before 120k miles? 150k miles? 180k miles?

I just replaced my water pump and timing belt. The water pump looked to be in great condition - I suspect I could have gone another 90K on it. But, since I was doing the work myself and a water pump only costs $100 I put a new one in. I suppose I'm happy to pay $100 for peace of mind.

53 k miles and you need to change the belts? watcha do spray em with anti-freeze?. The recommended milage for changing a timing belt in the lexus repair manual is actually outdated, it was carried over from the pervious gen gs and the vvt-i was not a factor. With vvt-i the timing belt is stressed more.

so i shuold just spray it with anti-freeze around the belts as to the front of the motor belt is what i meant "due to i dont really know how to spell it" but its the belt in front of the motor because its has extended its belt.. like its stretched and it makes a tweeking sound

no no I was making a joke kinda, anti-freeze is known to eat through rubber but anyway the screetching noise is your serpentine belt and at 53 k miles you have another 7 k to go before you actually enter the timing belt changing phase. Unless you want to change them now and sleep easy go ahead but you can still get at least 30 k of them, most likely more.
