Default So how do YOU pronounce Aristo?

It just hit me recently that I am not sure about how to say this word. I've heard it a few ways:

1. AIR-is-to
2. ARE-is-to
3. uh-RIS-to

4. Is there another way to say this?

We write the word all the time on CL but obviously it is not spoken on CL. Without being in countries with these cars, I can't say for certain which it is. Maybe our international brethren (or someone who knows for sure) can help.

I'm thinking the Japanese pronunciation is something like #2, but I say #3.

actually, the correct way to pronouce it is:

ar-lis-toe

the "toe" is not pronouced as the normal "toe", but kinda low going down tone

in japanese, there is no "r" round, all "r" are pronouced as "l".

once you get along with japanese you will know.

In phonetics, the l and r are related as they are both liquid sounds. They are formed very similarly. It is funny that it the eastern and western languages sometimes mix up the two.

Where is the emphasis though?

there is no such thing as emphasis in japanese language. it is flat. (except for emotion etc.)

Ah-R/Lee-su-toe (some japanese put in the su, some just flow it over to STOE, depends on where youre from.)

(quick and sharp on the toe, we americans take too long to say it )

but seeing as it is an english word i pronounce it in english

ah-RISS-toe

Agreed. But I am sure they don't say to-YO-dah either.

I guess I am just trying to see if there is a concensus when we TALK to each other in person, how the word should be said.

Another word that I have heard several pronunciation is Tein.

I am sure, though, you do not in conversation say it with the L. People who does not know better will think you speak English with an accent.
