Default Gs400 won't always start

Sometimes when I go to start the GS, the car won't start. I get nothing when I turn the key, radio works, but car won't start. If I take the key out and put it back in it seems to start right up. Anybody else having this problem? Just started recently. Also I have the Remote Start from Luxury Motorworks and it is not working either. I have it uninstalled right now too, but I was wondering if this could be a cause for any problelms? I am waiting for the newer version of the Remote Start to come out and I will be have it again!!! Yeah

But really has anybody else had this problem?

Did you have the remote start uninstalled properly? Double check it?

Might be a loose wire somewhere in there. The remote start most likely ties into the starter realy. If the wire is loose, it may cause intermittent probelms with starting the car.

I agree..sounds like the starter. I had the same symptoms. You'll have good start days and bad start days depending on temperature from what I've experienced. It will eventually get to the point where you're clicking the starter for about a minute to finally start. Some have DIY here on CL, save you alot on labor...cost me $1200 at the dealer.

Thanks, I can't believe I did not even think of that.. I overlooked the most obvious thing on the ride, and assumed it was the remote start because I have been having problems with it too since I installed it.....

I'd love to see 20, I'm sitting here looking at 16 on my thermometer. But have your battery checked, battery terminals, etc. Slow turn overs due to cold are generally battery and or oil (too thick) related, a dragging starter will be slow all year long.

Also, I see that you have a 99. How old is your battery? Believe it or not, my 98 had the original battery since 98 until last year. It was doing something similar to yours, got worse and worse, and then finally died.

i had the same issue with my gs3. come out - system is dead. nothing. get the click click click click - nothing...

turns out - needed a new battery and a new battery cable. $120 for the red top battery (3 yr warranty is better than the 1 yr yellow top) and $30 for the battery cable.

Keep in mind man - it doesn't take something huge to render your 50k car useless. Maybe it's something small like a battery cable.

c.

THX Neo, not sure on the battery in the car. Maybe I will replace it to start, cheaper.... Does an Optima fit right in? Or is modification needed....

The optimas are a little smaller and shorter. You will need something to raise the battery. Optima sells one or you can use the battery top that comes with the battery. On the positive terminal, there is a 90 degrees bend that fits the OEM battery perfectly but will give the Optima a little trouble. You might want to redo that terminal for a better fit.

There are more detail writeups on the Optimas on CL too.
