The cigarette lighter fuse is located in the driver side block. According to the repair manual, it's the 4th fuse down on the rightmost column of fuses. Remove the sucker and inspect it.

Hey man,
I had a lot of problems with my cigarette lighter sporadically working. I only ever used it for my radar detector as I am not a smoker. I ended up hardwiring my radar so I didn't have to use the cigarette lighter.
Send a PM to OLT. Although he doesn't have a GS he knows the lighter scenario very well. I am guessing you have just missed a fuse though.
Good Luck,
Jonny

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a fuse that is located under the drivers side dash on the left. Both my cig lighter and the one located in the center console stopped working.
I checked and replaced the fuse and all was good once again. Just go to your local Autozone or Kragen, etc. and buy a fuse kit. Make sure they're the smaller sized fuses.

Same problem here. Had a shop take a look at it and they said it's not the fuses, but an electical problem somewhere in the wiring. I'll have to take it back for an appt. They said it could take a while.
FYI - they told me they have seen a problem like this before. They had a customer that had used an air pump (that connects to the power outlet) to pump up a tire. He walked got distracted for a min and forgot about it. Came out and it had stopped, tire was full. Said they had to go into the wiring to fix it.
I don't know what may have caused mine to stop, but I need a dang outlet for my radar and cell charger!

I smoke but I don't use the cars lighter......nor the ashtray... Its weird tho, I use the socket to charge my phone all the time and it works for that. The socket in the armrest is occupied by my bluetooth earpiece.
But there was ONE DAY I lost my lighter in the car right after my wife nagging on me and for some reason the lighter wouldnt heat up. Could be just the element inside the lighter.

I do not know if the GS's has it, but I do know for a fact that the older SC's have it. There is a fusible link inside the cigarette lighter socket. Even if your fuses are good and you have power in the wire going to the cigarette lighter, the fusible link may be blown and in that case you will need a new socket or you will have to re-solder the link. I fixed this for one of my friend because her child actually stuck a coin inside the cigarette lighter socket and it continously shorted so the fusible link inside the socket blew... just something else to check, hopefully it will help.

I've been going through with this as well. When i would plug anything into the lighter I would get power for a 1/10 of a second then nothing. When a charger for my mobile phone would be plugged in it would only turn on briefly while being jiggled slightly. Anyone encounter this as well?
