Question for you guys. 1st, should I get the lexus extended warranty @ ~ 1600$ (3 yrs added after factory runs out) or something like warrantybynet (~1200$, similar coverage).

An issue here is service..if i get the lexus warranty, will I HAVE to get my car serviced at lexus (and pay the huge $$$)? Or could i take it to some local shops w/o any hassle??

HELP! I just read about somebody dropping big $$ on their 30k service...so did I and I don't want to do it at 45 k!

Well my man, first of all, factory and/or extended warranty does/will not cover regular scheduled maintanence! That just comes with territory. As far as buying the extended warranty, I say go for it! I debated this issue with myself for over a year as I approached that "dealine period" for obtaining the ext. warr. I thought about the fact that our cars rank # 1 in reliabilty and customer satisfaction by J.D. Powers ***. for the past 6 or 7 years! That says a helluva lot and not to mention I'm SERIOUSLY considering a trade on a '03 GS4 when they become available. But accidents do happen and I don't want to fork over "major cheddar" 6mos. down the road for something that is unforseeable!!! My suggestion, get w/ your salesman at the dealer (preferably your salesmanager!) and see can they "hook you up!

TXSTYLE's approach is precisely why and how dealers are able to sell extended warranties. IF you have a problem, they are indeed nice to have. But, just as at the casino, the odds are in favor of the house. Rarely, esp in the case of Lexus, will an owner need the extended warranty. So, lots of money to be made there. And as TXS stated, your scheduled maintainence is on YOUR nickel.

If you do decide to go the extended warranty route, look at some of the independents that offer these. For that matter, your cost even from the dealer is negotiable though they would just as soon have you think otherwise. Edmunds has an entire board (or two or three) to extended warranties and the companies that offer them.

Caveat emptor.

Good thing this topic came up, I was about to post a thread concerning this.

Since I DO NOT have warranty anymore, I am contemplating over buying an extended warranty.

1) First, how many different kind of extended warranties are there? Or is it just one size fits all. If there are different kinds, what do you guys recommened?

2) If you didn't buy your car from a particular dealership, is it still alright?

3) Now, the warranty only covers mechanical/electrical breakdown of any sort that comes into play?

4) If you have aftermarket equipment (like alpine stuff), would lexus be hesistant on giving me the extended warranty?

My bad if these questions sound like a "newbie" one

Thanks.

D-man ,

how is going?

there are basically 2 kinds of waranty: lexus one, and aftermarket one. unless lex has changed their coverage(few yeras ago they would not even cover my nakamichis); otherwise, do some research and get the aftermarket ones as some of them offer better coverage.

some members raved about WarrantyGold(sorry do not know the site). or you can try these and see some ads:

www.edmunds.com
www.autotrader.com

call all the ones you can find/like and request a copy of their policy coverage disclosure. or when you call them, tell them you want the origina new car's bumper 2 bumper warranty, or better.

some dealers actually offer other warranty brands and the lex one. the key is do some research and shop around.
if you have that good alpine stuff, get the best aftermarket one. but you need to make sure that the policy covers the aftermarket add-on system.

good luck. let me know how much it costs, and which one you think is the best.

will
