Question

Alright guys, here is the question of the day......My Lex dealer just got in his last 2001 GS430 (or so he says) Silver/black, lev, 17" chrome spoiler.....Should I wait for the 2002 to come out to get a cheaper price on the 01 and hope that it doesn't sell or just buy the 02 when they come??? How much should I expect to get off an 01 once the 02's come out??? I don't know if I can hold out much longer. I could use some input on this. I'd like to save as much as I can to do as many mods as possible.

If that's his last one, it's gonna be LONG gone before 2002s come out. So if you want it, I suggest you make your best deal now. If not, and if the dealer wasn't being honest, maybe he'll get more 2001's but possibly not with the colors/options you want so that might not help anyway.

Your only chance of saving money would be if he has a 2001 around September that you want. You'd probably only save another $1000, but it's all pretty variable. Some dealers don't deal much no matter when you buy.

KJ,

let me ask you a few questions(under some assumptions):

1. is the car equipped as you like? i assume this one also has nav, correct? if so, the msrp is ~$56300.
if you want the nav, and the color is right, I would get it if the price is under $51000. if not, wait for the 02s.

2.if you prefer no NAV, then try to work a best deal on what ever you see and like right now. the reason is because most likely the 02 models will all have NAV and lev, according to my 3 sources. and the price will be quite stiff when they first arrive.

i am in a similar situation as you do. however, here in LA, dealers are flooded with gs430 w/premium pkg, and they have been offering me awesome deals on these gs430. i had a fully loaded silver/blk in mind for many months because i really would like to have NAV.
but, i might settle for the basic one for a few years, and get the next gen GS that is fully loaded 3-4 years later.

I bought my 2001 GS430 fullly loaded with ML AUDIO / NAV / 17" Rim / Spoiler, etc and prior to this, I too was thinking, what is coming up for 2002? Upon reading all the info on this great forum, people were saying included maintenance like BMW, but nothing major changes for the 2002 model year and a revamp is possible for 2003 / 2004.

I do have to say that I am the kind of person that would hate to buy a car and a couple of months later, it's totally revamped and you feel screwed. It's just like my previous car. I bought a 99TL (new generation) and I could not even imagine, why anyone would buy a 98TL, which was totally different.

I finall settled for the 2001 GS430, due to the limited availability and the dealer was willing to move on the price more, since it was in stock. One look at this car in person and I was hooked. It's so sweet, that I couldn't wait any longer for the 2002, which I know I would be paying more for.

This is definitely a tough decision, but since Lexus gives us no indication of the 2002 GS, then I figure it will be either the same with some minor modifications, not a revamp. So the 2001 model is good enough for me and you can't go wrong with it. It's a beautiful car.

Good luck!

GS4WILL -
The car I was looking at did not have the nav. What would be a reasonable price to expect for silver/black, ml, spoiler and 17" chrome.

kj,

i did some research, and a gs equipped as you described has a msrp ~$54200. has the dealer gave you any indication on the price? the invoice shold be ~$46800 . w/ml and some other options, this is more desireable than a basic premium gs430.

so the bottom line price which i would pay is $48300-48500+fees. please keep in mind that i am basing the demand and supply situation from latest info here in LA. and it is more competitive on the supply side here.

just as a reference, if you want to save more $$$ for other mods, a gs430 w/premium pkg, no spoiler can be shipped to TX for $46500, delivery included.
