Thanks. I will be installing black pearl emblems on Christmas day (I hope). The above pointers will help me with the process. I'll make sure I have the required items before I start.

All it takes is some patience and effort to get them off the right way. It took me about 45 min. to an hour to get the "L" and "LEXUS" off of mine. You gotta let the Goo Gone soak in for a good 10-15 min. or so, soak it some more after that...it'll come off much easier if you use chuckb's advice of rolling off the glue with your thumb. After you get the glue off using Goo Gone (or something similar), make sure you wipe off any excess liquid using a wet towel and wax the area so it doesn't damage the paint.
BTW, I'm planning on hittin' up the Jap bookstores sometime this weekend...if you haven't fixed the emblems to your liking by then, let me know and I'll bring some Goo Gone and help ya out.

On the scratches, it depends on how deep the scratches are. If its not too deep you can buff it off with a power buffer. This method will also remove any adhesive left over.
On the heat gun and floss method. The longer the emblems are on the car the harder it will be to come off. Like mentioned earlier, adhesive remover or goo be gone will help soften old adhesive. Good luck.

I think as you stated, the time factor was the biggest problem. I'm sure the emblems have been on my car since 2001 in varying temperatures over the years. The glue was definetly not easy to get off.
