How much would you guys offer for this GS400?

129k mile is a lot for a 1998 vehicle, even though lexus are reliable (i'm not worried)

The things I like about it is the fact that it's black (my favorite color) and it looks clean.

The mileage is more acceptable and it cost less, but the interior needs some work (if i get it, i'm going to take out the fake wood trims).

I much rather get the black one, but due to the price and mileage, I'm not sure what to offer for each car.

Southern California used car market is expensive, so I can't really lowball too much, otherwise the seller will not budge on the deal.


If only the black GS400 had less miles My insurance is about to pay for my totaled acura legend, so I'll use the money towards a purchase of a used GS400.


Any help/advice/hints/complaints/slapintheface would be fine.

Seems high to me, but then again, I don't know the California used car market. Does it have nav or nakamichi or neither? What about HIDs? It doesn't have the oem spoiler, so I think that means it's missing one of the option packages, but I'm not sure which.

I dont think it has any of that. Of all the GS400s i've seen on sale, only the 2000s and very rarely do 99s gets navi and the works.

I will email the seller of the black GS for more indepth list of features.

Go to edmunds.com and put in all the options and offer him the private party value it suggests for the car. Show him the print out of what the site says is the fair market value. This price would be fair for that car whatever it is. A car with that many miles and 8 years old is not going to get a lot of offers at almost 16k.

Thanks Scott. I will do that, but for some reason, he/she will probably look at kbb as the more accurate source since it's more popular

that car is lowered also and has a different grill if that helps u in any way.. it was hooked up and possibly abused so check it out well.. i'd offer a $1,000 below wut they are asking

edmund says about $11.5k while kbb says about $13.6k

Both were estimated with condtion as "good" instead of excellent (because I know an 8 year old car is not like new, cosmetically).


I think I'm going to offer about $12k and go on from there. No more than $13,200 though.

At least the black one has had it's timing service done. That'll save you $400+, but that's also probably the reason the price is kind of high. I paid 20K for my 99 with 59K miles, but that was the book value at the time. I'd say add a grand to the book value, just because 400's are harder to find and go from there.

George, the silver gs400 also had it's timing service done. I checked out the silver car 2 months ago, but the Black one I have yet to look at.

Turns out, the guy with the black gs400 wants $17000 obo for it because it has tien coilovers, grill, and an expensive system. Looks like I wont be getting it. Paying more for something I dont need is not really my thing (I have my own audio setup already).

Looks like the silver one with the ugly interior will have to do, unless another one pops up somewhere.

Anyone know how to take the cheezy fake wood trim off? I'm not sure about using a heatgun because I dont know if it'll ruin the interior or not. Any provent methods?

There are posts about this. Try searching. I've heard that the fake wood trim is near impossible to get off, and, even if you can get it off, it always leaves something behind.

I don't like the way this sounds. You really shouldn't be settling for anything less than what you want. There are cars out there. You just have to be patient or be willing to travel to pick it up. The last thing you want to do is buy something that isn't really what you want just because there's nothing else out there. I think you'll regret it in the long run. I speak from experience. I settled for a 98 that didn't have everything I wanted, and ended up selling it a year later. Luckily, I found a 99 3 months later set up exactly how I would have ordered it from the factory, and I've never looked back. With the 98, I found myself constantly looking at other cars. Just my .02.

So true, don't be afraid of looking out of your area. I bought mine from 7K miles away and got what I wanted. With patience and determination one can find the car of their dreams and probably even at the price they have in mind.

By the way, I live in Chicago and bought my first GS (the 98) in Ohio (about 500 miles away) and my second GS (my current 99) in New Jersey (1,200 miles away). No, it's not 7,000 miles (which, by the way, is really impressive), but it wasn't right down the block either.
