Madico tint?
#1
Has anyone heard of Madico tint (Madico.com)? A tinter said it was the best stuff out there, which I know is probably not true.
He quoted me $350 for 4 door windows and the rear window, which to me seemed a little high.
He also said that for my car, a GS300 because of the tight fit on the windows, he had to remove the door panels. Is this bogus? Also this is a wet application vs. dry. Any info on that? Pros/cons?

what your tinter just told you about tight window, and remove door panel is a bunch of BS for a tinter w/experience and good hand, nothing would need to be removed. some lasy/bad tinter even try to cut the weather strip to make thier job easier.
the tinter's skill and patience are just as important as the film quality.
btw, i never heard of madico tint.

Hey people, the madico tint is the name of the 3M tint that most people use. That is what it is called. Actually people do it different ways. There are many ways to tint, well to get a good tint, some people do unscrew the door panels and put the tint under the window where we cannot see so it looks factory. I got mine for $325 and a few other board members on here, got the same tint job from the same person.

So it sounds like Madico is good stuff, huh? And is most tint applied wet, and not dry?
Also sounds like the price is on the high side, but not out of the ballpark.
I was watching a little as these guys were tinting my friend's S430--looked like they knew what they were doing although they were slopping water and soap all over this brand new Benz:eek: . My friend was sortof freaking out. They are charging him $295. I then asked if mine would be the same, and he said no, because of the tight window fit, he had to take the door panels off and thus $350. I remain a little skeptical.
So...anyone with recommendations of good places to tint in the Bay area, esp. east bay?

Havent done it yet--just checked out the tint place (cant remember the name) right down the street from Mercedes of Oakland, on broadway. Thought they might be reputable since that's where the dealership supposedly sends cars.

Madico tint
I've got Madico tint (25) on my GS300. I was also told (byt he best tint shop in Windsor) that it was the premium tint on the market. I've had no problems. Mine cost just as much as yours (325 cdn though)
It was also a wet application and the door panels. According to the Trim Shoppe (who do tints for all the import luxuries in Windsor) the clearance in the door panel to window is so tight on Beemers, Mercs, and LEXUS, that removal of the door panel is almost necessary.
2k1, I would just make sure that the technician that does your vehicle has done MANY GSs before.
Hope this helps!

Hey 2k1GS3,
I can recommend you to someone who can do it for $325. He has done at least 3 clublexus cars to my knowledge. The guy i went to is located in San Mateo. If you wanna know the place just let me know, he's done prolly quite a few GS's for sure. Let me know.

Gentlement,
It seems like you all got ripped off. I also use Madico tint. They are life time waranty on the metallic film. I paid $250for my 2k1 430 to get 4 doors and back window tinted. The film is metalic film with 55% rear and 5% in the front doors. The tint is very good. I have no problem with it. The only complaint I have was that they took longer then promised. And by the way, if you use metallic tint, it'll mess up your Nav system. But you can get an external antena from Pacific Coast electronic for 22USD. Their phone number is 800-522-7757 for the Fremont, Ca store if you wanted it right the way and save 25 bucks overnight FedEx. The part number for that is 096013330. it's made by Denso for Clarion. There is one for Alpine too. But it's 78 USD for the same antena. But other then that. They were great. The name is Extreme Tint in Santa Clara, Ca. Their phone number is 408-727-9540. They also have a web page. www.extremetint.com. It looks like all of you live in the eastbay. You can drive a little and save $100. You can use that for other toys for you car.
