Dashboard buzz
All,
I'm new to the Lexus forum. I'd like to say hi to all .
I searched for this already but really couldn't find my particular type of problem.
It's bone chillin cold here in Chicago, and the dashboard buzz I hear when I first start the car in the morrning is getting really annoying. It tends to die down, but not completely, as soon as the warms up to operating temp . It also comes and goes if you listen for it( radio and vents off)...
Symptoms:
1.Once the car is put into drive, the buzz gets louder. It seems like loading the engine makes it worse
2. IF I raise the RPM's enough, the buzz goes away completely.
3. As the car warms up, the buzz dies down, but there if you listen for it.
4. It's not any plastic pieces rattlling.
Its not:
The belts, open the engine bay and everything sounds fine. I just had the drive and timing belt replaced last week. The problem was there before that .IT's not engine knock for sure.
IT's not fan motors.
In my case. Once I accelerate the noise goes away. The person who posted this below has the opposite problem?
Someone quoted this on a different forum, but wanted to see if anyone here had a similar problem:
" A noise common to 1998 and newer gs`s is a rattling noise that sounds like
it is coming from the dash but is in the engine compartment. It is usually noted
on acceleration.there is a plastic tube on the LF "frame" rail that is held by a
small metal bracket.upon acceleration this tube vibrates in between the frame
and bracket.insulate it or increase tension of bracket to tightly secure tube."

Thanks.
I wish we can find a fix for this. Others have said they had dashboard squeeks,, which by padding down here or there, usuallly gets taken care of.
I know for sure, mine sounds like it could be coming from the engine bay.
heat shields possibly? It tends to die down as it warms up.
Also if the idle changes a bit, so does the noise.

I'm past the ABS pump going on and off
This is completely different. I put the car in drive and the buzz gets loud. I put in park, it almost goes away.. Once the car is warmed., it doesn't matter if it is in park or drive,. It's there slightly to annoy me

Are you guys friends with local Chicagoans? Before i take it to the stealer, i'd like to ask some owners of this common prob.
Good excuse to show up to a meet
My wife is going to think I'm crazy. Going to all the S2000 meets and now this! She kinda compares it to a boys "Tupperware " party.
