Default Got oil change today (for free), and sat in new IS

This probably belongs in car chat, but I thought I would post it here first for all the GS guys. I was at Lexus today to get an oil change. Over the last few years, I've become friends with one of the service advisors and the head technician, so, being that it's Christmas and all, I brought each of them a little something to show my appreciation for giving me such good service over the last year. I gave each of them one of those popcorn tins -- you know, the ones with the 3 compartments for butter and cheese popcorn and carmelcorn. Anyway, long story short, it took about 1/2 hour, and when my car was ready, my service advisor came up to me and said something like, "Okay, you're all set, your car's outside, have a good day." As I started to walk over to the cashier, he stopped me to make it clear that this one was on Lexus today. It just goes to show you that a small gesture of appreciation can go a long way. Most customers come in and yell at these guys all day, so two $5 tins of popcorn got me a $50 oil change. Just to be clear, that was not my intention at all, but it was very nice for him to reciprocate. Anyway, I thought I'd share.

While I was waiting for my car, I went into the showroom and sat in the new IS. Nice car, but I guess I expected a little more for $40k+. It really felt cramped inside compared to the GS. I know this is an obvious observation, but for some reason, I expected it to be a little bigger on the inside than it was.

That's all for now.

That's pretty good...10 bucks of popcorn for a 50 dollar oil change. Too bad you didn't take the is350 out for a spin. I hear its small but I also hear its quick. One of these day, I'll go and test drive one.

McGrath out in Westmont. They've been very good to me over the years. However, I have been good to them as well. I have the dubious distinction of being the only person they know of to have two 60k maintenances performed within a 6-month period (my 98 GS4 in December, 2004 and my 99 GS4 in June, 2005).

nice score on the oil change e. those service writers can make life a lot easier on you if they want. I have a good relationship with mine too.

I sat in an IS my last service too. It felt like the seat was kind of hard and not as cushy as my GS. did you notice that?

I did notice that, but I figured it was designed like that deliberately to make it more sporty and probably to compete against and to be more similar to the 3 series.

Funny thing, I was at my Lexus dealer yesterday as well. To drop off my car to have the window repaired after someone broke into my car last week. Anyway, I also sat in the new IS and it is a bit cramped. Much nicer than the previous model IMO. I also got my first look at the new GS and I am not all that impressed. I will keep my 2001 until they do something special with the GS. 400 HP might tempt me but the exterior looks plain and the interior is just OK. Oh, and that was pretty nice of you to hook up your service guys with snacks. Food always goes along way in making people happy .

Nice! The guy that had my car before me always took it to McGrath. I thought about continuing to go there as well, but it's too far away for me to drive. I usually go to Highland Park or Glenview.
