Does anyone know if drive belt tensioner is covered by powertrain warranty? My GS belt was squeking so I bought a new belt, when I took the old belt off it looked perfect. I spun the tensioner and you can hear the bearing in it sounds like crap. car only has 30k miles, so I'm hoping power train warranty covers it, anybody know.

Hey Chuck, I don't think the belt and tensioner is covered. Wear and tear item. But if you have a good relationship with your Dealer, they might cover it..

I've been waiting for 2 days for dealer to tell me if it's covered under power train or not. she called yesterday and said it's not. I said ok no prob, called Sewell to order part and as I was on hold, the Lex dealer called back and said wait, maybe it is covered

I'm not too worried about it since I can buy the part from Sewell for around $50 and do it myself in 15 minutes. I just need to know, ya know?

btw-coincidentally, since I've removed the belt and reinstalled it, the noise has disappeared lately. I know it's that bearing in the tensioner though, because when I had the belt off and spun the pulley I could hear the bearing wasn't right.

I'm curious how many other have had that bearing fail and at what mileage?

I just had mine go bad at 97,000 miles. I had replaced the serpentine belt when I changed the timing belt and two weeks later the bearings started to grind louder and louder. My mechanic did a simple one bolt removal, then replaced the $2.00 bearings inside the tensioner wheel and re-installed. Five minute job, shouldn't cost much.
