I am considering leasing a 2001 GS 430; I currently lease a 1999 GS 400 (lease terminates in March). The car I'm thinking about is Crystal White, has the premium package, trunk mat, wheel locks, spoiler, L-tuned exhaust package, 18" Mille Miglia Action Sport wheels, and Bridgestone 245 40 ZR 18 run flat tires. The dealer is offering to get me out of my current lease and into a new one (something I've done before with this dealer). The car has something like 450 miles on it, but would receive the full warranty. Mileage on the lease would be 12,000 per year. He's also going to throw in window tinting. Any feedback on wheels/tires and the exhaust system? What would be a fair price for a 39 month lease (the window sticker for car + upgrades is $57,443)? He'll be getting me out of this lease to pick up redesigned GS if I want one. What about waiting for a 2002? Thanks for your guidance.

doug,

you are in luck as i will be picking up a gs430 this month myself. to answer your qs:

1. if you prefer no nav+ml, you should stay w/01s as the 02s will all have nav+ml pkg, according to several inside resources. also waitng for 02s would mean much higher prices. here in LA, the gs430s w/premium are going for close to invoice.

2. w/premuim pkg, factory 17s, msrp at $50800, the pmt for 36 mon./15 k miles/year, no money down, just 1st mon+dmv+luxury tax, ~$690+sales tax. this based on a selling price of ~$45100.

3. in your case, since a trade is involved, it is more complicated as dealers can play w/many factors.
realistically to me, the car that you mentioned SHOULD have a sticker of no more than $54400. i used the street value for all the add-ons, not the sky-high retail prices dearlers posted on the window.
the l-tuned exhaust is nice; but the wheel pkg is your personal thing. i know dealers usually put on OK pkg and charge too much $$$. i would rather they take off the 18s. that way i can use that ~$2k to get any wheel that i like.

4.assuming they let you walk away from your current w/no penalty, i would take the car equipped as you described at no more than $685/month(39 mon is supposed to be cheaper than 36; but the car has more options) . keep in mind this a car w/some miles, and the 02s are due in 2 months or less.

i based my info on the supply and demand here in LA where competition is intense. so it comes down to how much you want the car, and market condition in your area.

Thanks for the info. Did you mean $685 plus tax or $685 including tax?

Will - Based on prior experience, approximately how long after the new models come out do prices start to drop. I plan to purchase a GS430 in mid-Jan, do you think the prices will have started to drop by then? I would love to take advantage of current prices, but I'm waiting to close on a house in Oct and don't want to incur any large debt until after I close.

Doug,

it is $685 +tax.

GSD,

how are you? it has been a while....eh

keep this in mind: do not get it in oct or november. because these 2 months are for the 02s to arrival, and for the inventory to built up a bit at the lot. the more cars on the lot, the more discount you would get. so take care of the house first, and let me know when you are ready. if possible, december would be good because every year lex corp has this promo in dec. as "December to remember" sale.

however, jan. might be good too as most people have dried up their fund for holiday shopping, dealer might be willing to push a little for jan sales. my bud just got promoted at the dealership, so i am getting heck of a deal on the gs430 soon.

hello D-man,

how is nyc cops treating you?

well, this is the story. i started looking at the basic premium pkg silver gs430, and was quoted some decent pmt. but then my buddy realized they have 2 fully loaded (nav+ml.....wings,chromes..everything except the wood steering wheel which everyone wants), so he gave some very attractive #s. since i might give this gs to my babe to drive 3 years later, i am just not sure if i should save the extra $$$ from the fully loaded one for now. and use those money for the next gen GS.

Well, I took the plunge. Kept everything, but swapped out the 18" wheels for a set of 17" with chrome. Got a good deal, and the dealer threw in a free 15K or 30K service.
