Default Looking to buy a 98 GS 400.... but got a few question

Hi,
I am currently looking to buy a GS400/430...
There is a 98 GS 400 in one of our local dealer and it got 129,000KM on it...
I am wondering is it a lot of mileage for a 98 GS400 and will it has lots of problem?
ANy bro has any experience with such a mileage?

Thanks

There are several threads about mileage, the car you are looking at is reasonable at 80K miles, should have lots of life left if maintenance was kept up. Search for the other threads using "mileage" .

Call your nearest Lexus dealer with the VIN number and ask them to look up the vehicles history. They will be able to tell you what has been done to the car if it had been serviced at a dealership. I bought my 98 GS400 out of state last year and made them fax me the maintenance history. My car has 83k on it and it drives like new!!!!!!!

I've got 135,000 on my 98 GS400 with absolutely no issues, normal brakes, tires, oil, lube, timing belt and all that other regular stuff, absolutely nothing else.

With a car that old, even though it's only been 80K miles, I'd replace the timing belt. Have the ball joints been replaced yet?

I bought my GS430 with 70K miles on it (in 30 months), I didn't have any concerns. The 98 you're looking at is an 8 year old car. Guy at work bought a 98 GS400 (65KMile) last year, he's had to replace rear bushings (not sure how much $$) and a AC evap (in the dash, $700 w/labor). And he needs upgraded ball joints....

Do a Carfax report which everyone should do when buying any kind of car. It should be fine, these cars run for ever (seen 200K to 300k miles!) You could also take it to a mechanic for a checkup which usually only costs about $100 bucks.

i just got a 2000 gs400 with 80k. i got a carfax on it and it seemed clear so i bought it. if you posted a few days ago i could have been able to look up the carfax for you for free, but my month ended on the 13th. the only problem i have on my car is rear passenger light is out interior light is out, cd-radio display looks weird instead of a "CD 4" it says "CD ' ", front tires have outside wear, and some chatter in the steering which i am hoping is warped rotors. other then that IT'S a BEAST! motor is GREAT!

Good luck with your GS

My GS400 has 129,000 miles and runs great. My SC400 now has 349,000 MILES (not kilometers) and has never had a drivetrain or mechanical problem. Only routine maintainance.

If the odometer reads in kilometers, why do you call it MILEAGE? Shouldn't it be KILOMETERAGE? Mileage means miles not that silly metric stuff.

Weld cracked and sprung a complete leak in the AC system. He found out it's not that uncommon, requires the dash be pulled, dealer wanted $1200....even a Lexus has these kind of issues, esp an 8 year old version, first year of production, too.

BTW, despite the cash for repairs and his old lady being pi$$ed, he says he doesn't care, he never giving up his V-8 Lexus.

Wow. That's unbelievable. That even beats "highmiles" GS.

I would freak out if I had to pull my dash on the Lexus or Nissan. I had to do work myself on the A/C evaporator core on the 240, thanksfully all I had to do was take out the glove box and go through that. The core was right behind it along with the blower and heater core behind the center console. No need to pull the dash.

Those core's are expensive.

Well J-Velocity you going to buy the car?
