This has been bugging me for a while. A few years ago the painted originals started peeling so my dad had our dealership install new ones. I questioned him about how they look like they are wrong, but he didn't seem to care. Now that I own it, I want to know.

Are these the correct center caps for my 1998 GS 400?

I don't think that's the right cap (at least mine are different). Here's a picture:

I found a website that sells Lexus parts online. According to the site the 16's center caps should either be chrome or polished. I believe these are painted.

What could they be off of then?

Those caps are finished just like the caps on the stock 17s (although the stock 17 inch caps are about 3 inches in diameter, whereas those are only 2.5). It's hard to say what those caps go with, but I'm pretty sure whenever the lug nut plate is chrome (even if the wheel is not chrome), the center caps are also chrome to match the lug nut plate. Does that make sense?

Does anyone else have an opinion on this?

My 98GS with stock 17's had the satin finished caps with the chrome logo when I bought it. The satin was wearing off around the edges revealing the plastic underneath, so I purchased stock chrome plated caps, and they look great. About $23.00 each at a Canadian dealer.
