I've been shopping around for wheels and tires and am being told different things. Today the guy told me I should go with 255/35/20 that 245 would be stretching the tire. I thought I should be looking into 245/35/20. I am primarily interested in the Michelin Pilot XGTZ 4 . The difficulty I'm having in this situation is the Michelin comes in 245/40/20 but their website has the tire diameter listed at 26.8 in. which is about the same diameter as 245/35/20. My calculations have the Michelin overall diameter at 27.7 in. The other tire i'm interested in is the Dunlop SP Sport 9000 in 245/35/20 which I know would fit. Has anyone used the Michelin XGTZ 4 245/40/20 ?

245/40-20 will be too large...
And the guy that told you that a 245 would be "stretched" on a 8.5" wide wheel is either A) Stupid or B) Stupid.
The Dunlops are pretty good...have you looked at other brands like Nitto, Toyo, Bridgestone, etc?
I would skip the XGT Z4's (though they're good tires) and get something else...what are you more interested in...quite ride, traction, durability, price?

I wouldn't recommend Michelins !! The tire noise is awful and I just don't like the perfomance. I would recommend Toyo T1-S in 245/35/20. If you insist on getting 245/40/20, I believe Yokohamas AVS has that size. Yoko's are excellant too and definately better than Michelins.
Toyos, Yoko AVS, and nitto are the 3 you should look at IMO.
