Default Poll: Which Gas

i copied this off the rx forum, and since i got a gs, its best i put it in here, to know what other gs folks Which gas do you use to fill up your GS: Regular, Plus or Premium?
i just got a 99 gs300 as a first car and the guy before me used premium so i too use it but its pretty expensive nad im in high school with no job, well a temp on and off job and only make 35 bucks/5 hrs, so theres no way i can afford gas, but ill manage but also i heard couple people using super/regular so will there be a difference if i downgrade? though i dont plan on it i was just wonderin

Regular, Plus, and Premium are not really meaningful words.

Octane is the meanful measure.

GS430s want 91, but there is no 91 in PA or NJ.
We have only 89 and 93 (and the occassional freak 92, 94 or 95).

Ideally, you should give the car exactly what it requires.

There is NO benefit using anything higher than the engine is designed for.

Higher octane is more expensive and offers no benefits beyond the engine's design and tuning (engines with higher compression/more aggressive timing need higher octane). Lower can lead to actual engine damage due to multiple flame fronts. Nock and ping detection systems, however, make the timing less agressive so the car will run safely with lower than optimal octane.

In PA and NJ, that leaves us with 92 and 93 as the proper options. Though 89 is fine for most normal drivers.

I use 92 in the GS although 94 is available. I cannot tell any difference, so 92 it is. I have run lower, and still didn't notice a difference. The LS gets 89 or 92. Chevron exclusively though.

Only use premium!!! In Michigan I roll with 93 octane only. I hear in Cali they only have 91. Is this true?? I wasn't paying attention one night and put in regular. My car ran like crap.

We only have 91 in Oklahoma so I use it. We used to have 93 but they don't sell it any longer

Would never put anything less in my baby - that's like drinking cheap vodka!!

It's like $2 more per fill up. I can feel the difference immediately, but I'd do it for peace of mind either way.

89 will not cause your engine to explode.

I switch between 89 and 91 and was using strictly 89 when the gas hit $3/gallon a month or 2 ago. I don't do a lot of driving since my school is only a few miles away so it doesn't really matter.

I can feel the difference though. 89 definitely makes the car less responsive while 91 makes it feel like she wants to redline everytime I hit the gas.

Up here the difference between Regular and Premium is 14 cents a gallon, I average 14 gallons between fill ups, a $1.96 isn't worth going against the manufacturer recomendations. I voted Premium.

Dude, 93 only. I understand about the cost, believe me I've been there. But, If you've got a Lexus, you should get used to high cost. They don't break often, but when they do, look out $$$$
