They had the moblie ones here in Anchorage for a year or two. Police used them primarily in the school zones. Someone challenged the legality of the camera and won in court. A judge has upheld this decision several times and now they just use the units in construction zones to warn you of your speed. They were removed form serviced based on the fact that it was determined to be unconstitutional to ticket the vehicle and not the driver who was speeding. You could try denying it was you in the car.

Its kinda suprising to me that so many people havent heard of these, DC is big on them...........another way to get money out of tax payers. Im in DC quite a bit, I think the only reason I havent seen any of these tickets is because I drive a company car thats registered to my corporate office. I tend to forget about them though, but there is many times I have been coming out of Dc down NY Ave at midnight going about 70. There was a un marked cop car sitting on the access road by the sanctuary right before the Washington Post sign for months. Nobody in the car, I could never figure out what the hell it was there for until a co worker told me about the mobile speed camera. After that, going past it at night it looked like fireworks it was flashing so much......just about every car that went past made the thing flash.
So to recap driving in DC:
Red light cameras
speeding cameras
big fines for driving while talknig on a cell phone
You think the crime would be lower with all of the additional funds they are raising......guess its not going to the important things like schooling and fighting crime.
