Congrats on buy I just bought me a Silver gs 300 for everyday driver. I loved the gs 400 i test drove but it looked kind of beat up rode kind of rough. For an everyday driver this car is ten times better than my former 325. And far as reliabilty My wifes has had her 2001 RX since oct. 2000 not one problem except things you have to get done, brakes, oil change,etc... knock on wood. Can't say the same about my 325.

i was actually LOOKING for a low mileage 98 GS since that was the 1st year of the 2nd gen body style... if economics (purchase price, insurance, etc.) are more of a consideration than vanity (saying your car is a "nineteen-ninety" something), then a 98 is a better buy (all other things being equal). i ended up purchasing a 2000 because it was a sleek, limited edition, one owner car, with some lexus svc records - for the right price. but i would've jumped on a 98 in similar condition...
btw, i'm not "impressed" with the gs300 power (had 6cyl/3.0 liter with previous car) - but it's such a nice ride [dreamy!] the compromise is an easy one... any/all day... i'm sure you'll enjoy your decision either way!!!

You can't go wrong with the GS300 if you are planning to mod it. Being a member of this site, chances are you are going to end modding. Just make sure you get a good deal on it. If you are planning on just enjoying the ride then go with the GS400. As far as the year, I would go with the 2000.
And to save you the trouble on pondering what mod todo first: TEIN CS w/EDFC.
Enjoy

Thanks for the input. I bought this one https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=196387 and am picking it up this weekend. I could tell that it looks like it's in a really great condition from the pictures that I received.

I also have a 99 GS400 and absolutely love it. If it had more driving feel compared to a 540i it would simply annihilate the BMW.

I picked up the car yesterday and I'm really impressed with it. Overall I like it better than the 540i/6. The car felt like it's new. To say that the seller took really good care of it is an understatement. Anyway, thanks for everyones input!
