How do you verify original old parts to New one?
Need help on how to differentiate between old parts from new? I had emergency repair a month ago regarding my front hood latch. I can't close my hood while on the road. So I went to my dealer have them looked at it. They told me they need to replace my hood cable. They give me loaner car coz the will take at least 3 hours to fix and I said fine. Six hours later came back they said they did replace cable plus a new hood locking latch. Hood was now working but I have to push my hood harder that before.
I was cleaning my engine from winter salts and dirt and noticed that latch looks like my old latch and started looking at the back of hood locking latch and notice that the original manufacturer
RED paint marker was on this latch. Looking on all origianal parts around the engine compartment I have all this red paint marker, I assumed this is my original latch and never changed by my dealer.
Are all new parts marked with same red color as original from the factory? ?

interesting...does the latch look newer? assuming they did replace the latch as well, that might explain that the hood needs to be pushed harder probably due to a newer spring in the latch. can someone else chime in?
post a pic if you can.

You should've asked to see your old parts before you left the dealership.
Brand new cables would have super white plastic ends, in time this will turn off-white. Latches are harder to tell, the tech could've cleaned it up and re-applied new grease.

Since you didn't ask for the old parts, you may never know.
The hood is working right now. If you had to pay the dealership to fix it, take their word that they fixed it doing what they said. After all, it is fixed, isn't it?
