I'm thinking about doing this myself. Just out of curiosity, how easy is the chrome to remove if I don't like the look of it in person?

as easy as walking to the grill and just pulling the chrome off it comes off with ease when you pull on it!

and it doesn't leave a sticky residue either

I promise you do the entire grill...all of it not just a couple of peices, and you won't want to pull it off!!!! I've had mine on for about 5 months now and love every bit of it!!!

One other question- is the 2001 grill easy to apply the chrome to? I think I read somewhere that the 2001 grill was new.

Houston,

WE HAVE CHROME...

I put the chrome on my GS's grill last evening...

I waste no time when it comes to important things like this...

It was easy...

Only took me about an hour and a half, but only b/c I wanted to take my time.

I did take the grill off, so I could chill in the A/C.

And I bought about 4 packages of Chrome Door Trim for a grand total of $11.97 at Trak Auto...

It looks so sweet on the front of my GS

It definately sets off the other chrome detailing that is on the front of the car. Looks like I spent about $250+ on chrome.

So much sparkle, that I think it makes the GS stand out even more. If that is even possible. I think every GS owner should take on such an easy upgrade.

Thanks again for all those who helped.

Thumbs up

That chrome grill definitely adds more 'bling' to the GS. It goes well with the chrome in the headlights.

Some people dont recognize it though. They know that something is different but they cant tell what. I guess only the car enthusiasts can tell

It should be the same application except that the 2001 grill has less vertical bars than the older models but that should just make it a faster and easier job for you!

GOOD LUCK!!

Unhappy MANN

I have a 2001, and the thin chrome strips didn't work, it sucks. I am not sure if they make bigger chrome strips but it doesn't work on the 2001. its too thick. ohh well maybe something else will work.

I have a 2001 and it worked perfectly for me. I bought my strips at WalMart; they are Bell Door Edge Guards (chrome). I bought 3 packages for $8, and had no problems. I didn't need to take off the grill to get a good fit, either.

On '98, the ribs are not the same height all the way. [Top and bottom 1" is about .2" higher than than the mid portion]. When you Chrome it, how do you compensate for it. Does the tape meet the tape and you get a portion with NO plastic grill backing? Do you loose rigidity in the middle?

You mean like when you take the "L" emblem off the grill?? I've already done it and it hasn't lost any rigidity just looks dope as hell!!! you have to try it.

Man i really need to take some pictures of my car!!

Sorry so late with the pics; just bought a digital camera. Here are some photos of my 2001 430 with the chrome grill treatment.
