Default steering wheel vibration

Well I had my car taken to NTB and they rebalanced my tires and torqued them to correct specs but my steering wheel is still vibrating (not as bad as before). What could it be?

I was reading a post where you recently purchased new rims. Nice rims btw For the rims, what was the hub size? Usually buying aftermarket wheels, they make the hubsize universal, so you might need a hubcentric ring to make it fit to the stock hubsize. Without the hub rings the steering wheel might vibrate from the rims/tires/ wheels.

Also, at what speeds is your steering wheel vibrating? 20 30 40 65+ mph? or when you are braking?

Yeah be sure they put hubcentric rings on each hub....or else you will have a terrible vibration at damn near all speeds...

another possibility is worn lower ball joints or lower caster arm bushings. I changed out my lower ball joints and it removed some vibration, others have installed the bushing kit from daizen and reported excellent results.

folks

do the daizen bushing upgrade , if not all due to finances due the castor arm , it accounts for 90% of shimmy and vibrations .. it works , daizen did it right , i am surprised that everyone here has not at least done the castor arm bushings , if you remove this arm and look at what toyota put there you would clearly understand

the bushing kit is only 100

i did mine months ago , i dont drive my car everyday anymore , some times for days it sits and we all know the flatspotting issues , i dont have any even after sitting for days, i dont have the dreaded tire warm up scnerio its just smooth all the time

Well I know when I was riding on my stock 16s everything was fine (smoothest car I ever drove) so I dont think its the bushings, but where can I get those hub rings and are they expensive? And it usually starts vibrating aroung 55-60 mph everything rides smooth before that, and there is no vibrating what so ever when I brake. It bothers me so much I might take off the rims and go back with my stock rims

Can you put them in yourself or do you have to have a professional install them?

no need for professional to install....but they can be a b***h if they dont fit "tight" and wont stay on the hub or wheel while getting onto the lugs.

Ktang....Don't tell me you are going back to stock because of a little shimmy....you can resolve that...I had a similar issue after getting my Milanos bolted on...They forgot to put hubcentric rings on each of the four hubs....This may be a long shot but since your wheels and the ones I got are similar builds...I would say you will need a set of 73mm hubcentric rings..which is what I used and they fit perfectly..

I had the exact same problem. Rode perfect with the stock 16's and then I put some aftermarket wheels on (with the hubcentric rings) and had a shimmy between 55-75 mph. It cost me $60 to have all 4 wheels spin balanced while mounted on the car and problem solved. You will be surprised at how hard it is to find a place that does this work......very few.

Well I bought some hubcentric rings from willha418 (thanks again). Really can't wait for these to come in, hopefully this resolves the problem.

ktang, they are on the way! They should fit perfectly into your Jaz rims. Please let me know how they work!

What if you don't have the box, what's the next best way to find out the hub size? What can you measure?

dial calipers or an inside micrometer which measure in mm or you can convert from inches, or call the manufacturer.
