Hi Guys,
Sorry was not able to do the pictures today, i work nights, sleep days. Another thing i found out today is that it now gives the Exit # and name on highways. Previously did not. It is well worth the upgrade. Returning the old hard drive is not a problem. The package is the same one you are going to return it in and the pre-paid return label is in the package.
No sweat.
Clive.

I'm also interested in the new color scheme. Honestly, i'm kind of sick of the brown and green My 2000 GS300 comes with the Sept. 99 map so this would be really nice. Now when I get off the freeway to go to Disneyland I wouldn't be jumping off the freeway!

OK, here you go. Same update as you'd get in the GS.
It felt like the Nav seems a little brighter, a little faster but my fiance thinks its the same and that I'm imagining it / placebo effect. The overall color scheme I believe is the same though.
Some pages here, I took several others of other modes in the link below.

Don't everyone with an 01+ start hating on the old school nav graphics now Remember this came out in late 1997.

Does anyone know how many points of interest there are? I remeber the old 03 had 1 Million, and then they said they wouldnt be upgrading it again, but it looks like they finally came out with a new version.

Team - Lexus did not provide much of any info on any of the changes from year to year, so it's just blind faith if you believe it's better. I've had 3 upgrades and each one was either a bit quicker, had more roads and points of interest or had revised exit numbers when they've changed on highways. All of the upgrades were worth it to me.
Before anyone else asks 'is it worth it' look at the year of the database you have NOW. If it's older than say '01, then most likely the latest one is going to be worth it. But don't expect all of a sudden it's going to have street details for the rural boonies, cause it ain't. The HD version only has every street detail on big cities and suburbs. The DVD based one in the 2001 and up GS models have WAY more streets in rural areas and WAY more points of interest because it's different player hardware. The HD based systems on the '98-'00 GS is not particularly fast, so I expect they didn't upgrade it significantly either due to RAM or CPU constraints.
Note that the HD systems do have U.S., state and county roads for just about EVERYWHERE so they're still pretty useful everywhere.

Lexus Parts website says
The HDD-based system update contains expanded Points of Interest (P.O.I.). There are one million P.O.I.s on this HDD update versus 700000 on the Fall 2002 version
Here's a pic with how many show (in my region?) without any search criteria
