I know that this is an enthusiasts sight and might upset some people but I have some questions. I would like some info on the GS 400. What are the best years to own? Any paticular year to stay away from? I am looking at the 98+ modle years. To understand my current situation I have a 300ZX twin turbo. I'm looking for something that is reliable and smooth on the highway. I dont plan on moding because I want to keep the car as reliable as possible. Its not going to be a show car or a sports car to me.... just a luxury transportation that still has some get up and go power. I've been around several different modles of lexus one being a 92 LS 400 & the other a 00 GS 400. I know that these cars are rock solid reliable. Any help or advice on this subject would be apriciated.

I know that with the pre-owned vehicles the warranty is usually better then when sold new. Most of the time its 100K powertrain. The only draw back is getting gouged by the dealership on a used car.

The first year of the second generation GS (1998) has the most TSBs and some minor quirks but it's still a Lexus and most owners have little to complain about.

For daily driver & if you're not concerned about looks, go for one with OEM 16" (chrome look best IMO). Ride is much smoother and tire wear will be less of an issue ( 10 - 15K with the 17"s)

My 98 GS400 is my daily driver, has been for the past 2+ years. Granted my commute is only 20 miles one way (short compared to most commutes), it is definitely a plus to drive that 20 miles in comfort, luxury, and with the v8 power under the hood for those quick lane merges, etc.

Thanks Dave for the helpful links. I'm going through them right now. As for AJ's comment, sorry I already have the mod bug in the sports car. Currently sitting at 400hp and I'm content with it. Insted of dumping 20 or 30 grand on mods I'd rather get another vehicle.

The worst thing about using a GS for a daily driver is that you'll end up using up all your vacation! You'll probably end up driving right past your place of employment and just driving off into the sunrise...
There isn't a road long enough to take to get to work.

Smart man. That is what I'm doing too. But for those that have done that, i give them props for making a beautiful machine even more pretty.

Well if though you say your not going to mod the GS i bet you will... You will find something to add to the gret 4door sedan..
Well alot of us mod the cars and drive them everyday... Yea some have them as show cars but the rest of us still have Luxury just riding on 19's or 20's LOL
I think you'll be very happy with the GS... good Luck and Welcome TO CL...
