Default Just Bought! GS400

Hi, I just bought a GS400 today, it has 140k miles which is a little high, but only cost me 12k. I did a carfax report and had it checked out at a mechanic, everything was good. The guy/dealership who I bought it from said he needed to sell it, he bought it for himself, but just needed to sell it to break even. Good deal for me I guess!

A couple questions I have,

One is that the steering wheel, when you put key in and it comes down, and gets into posistion, it kinda of well... hmm grinds? Not grinds, squeels I guess just sounds like it could use oil, thats what he said, but hopefully its not the wheel motor.

Also he did not have the key with the factory alarm, he said I could get one at Lexus dealership for about $200, but I was thinking it might be better just to get an aftermarket alarm, one with auto start etc.. also will they be able to wire in the trunk open feature?

I previously had a Mitsu Evo8, so this is kinda a big change for me, but wow its so nice inside. And it still has some power.

First couple things I would like to do is Lower it, and get exhaust. My neighboor across the street has a GS430 and a SC300, both fixed up looking nice, he had some pointers for me.

Any comments, info etc.. would be appreciated! Im excited!! lol

PS I attached a pic, not sure if it came through or not

Congrats on your new ride

I would invest in a better alarm than the stock if you plan on modding...

And for your squeeky steering column:

Thanks! And I was thinking the same thing about upgrading the alarm. They can wire in the trunk release to some correct? Don't know why, but I like that feature lol.

And thanks for the link, but can't get it to come up. Let me try it again.

**edit**

Link works thanks!

Thats quite an upgrade from your last car. Nice pick up... sounds like you got the mod bug already . This site is awesome, your gonna love it. I'd recommend getting familiar with the search funtion up at the top of the page. it provides an invaluable amout of information and has helped me out. Welcome!

welcome to CL... Why go from a EVO to a GS... Those I thought where a good turbo car.. You can't go wrong with the GS.. Its one of the best 4 door sedans out there and when modded looks even better... Congrats

Hey, Welcome to CL, and congrats on the new car. The Gs4 is a great car.

If you haven't found it already there is a sticky link at the top of the forced induction/exhuast catagory that has sound clips of most exhuast made for the GS. I'd spend sometime listening there.

I just put on the HKS and it sounds great! Will try to get a video of it posted in there as I believe HKS is one of the ones not represented.

Anyways, congrats on the car and let the modding begin!

I sold my Evo when my wife got sick after our 2nd baby was born, and although I liked it, I was ready for a change. Did not want another Evo.

And thank you LexusIV for the exhaust page, I was hoping there was sound clip page

I like the sound of GReddy, but with no supercharger and headers, not sure what it would sound like, I had GReddy on my GST long time ago, liked it, nice and deep. Would like to hear that HKS when you get a chance.

Congrats on the recent purchase, the car looks to be well cared for, especially considering the mileage. IMO those rims have gotta go and would be my first mod. But you have a plan, so go for it!!

You traded a Evo 8 for a older GS with 140k .. I could understand a IS350 for an Evo8. But, congrats and welcome
