I believe the Power Mode kicks your car in a higher RPM ... so answer is a YES

I just performed an experiment with the car in "power" mode for the last tank of gas (I usually drive with the car in normal mode). Importantly, I did not alter my driving style at all. I calculate gas mileage every time I fill up, so I pretty much know the exact mileage I get every week. Long story short, there is absolutely no difference. None.

I think mileage is more dependent upon how far your foot pushes the gas pedal. I have driven mine in both modes for a full tank of gas, gas mileage was the same. I drive very conservatively but do mash that pedal occasionally when things are all clear.

I always wanted to know the answer to this question but always figured if the RPMs are the same when accelerating then no more gas would be used.

I was actually going to post this question too. Use of more gas or not, I'd like to know if it doesn't harm or cause engine wear, etc. . . if it is left on all the time. Since we're on the ECT subject, what does the SNOW side do?? Does it just affect gas/electrical engine components or does it like play with the suspension??

my gs4 has pretty bad gas mileage anyway with all my mods..
So I leave the power on all the time... never switch it off since I got it a year ago..

I just recently did the same test. I think the PWR mode does save gas because, at least for the gs-300, when the car takes of from a stand still or reving up to pass someone I noticed I had to keep the revs up high for a longer period then I did in PWR mode. Basically in PWR mode the engine in the gs-3 feels 5 times as smooth and when taking of from a stand still the rpm's do jump higher and stay there longer if you want speed but under normal driving conditions the fact that the engine revs up faster it accelerates the car faster then in normal mode and even though the rpm's jump up faster and a little higher (by about 300-400 rpm), the engine keeps the rpm's up for a lesser period of time. This seems to be the main reason for fuel saving in the gs-3, the pwr mode the rpm's rev up fast and drop fast thus only breifly going over 3k rpm and then droping down to around 2.3-2.5 k rpm, and the normal transmision mode slowly raises the rpm but under normal driving conditions the rpm's still jump past 3K and seem to stay there longer to accelerate the car when compared to PWR mode. Stan. Thinking of getting a lexus IS-350, I wonder how much more fuel will it burn compared to the gs-3.

it shouldn't affect the gas mileage, just like if you put it in snow mode it's not going to safe you anything. it changed the shift point, but unless you drive aggressively, it's not going to change much. and if you drive aggressively, either in pwr or norm mode you are going to burn tons of gas anyway

No but it could affect the life of the light bulb. I had mine on all the time for 3 years straight and the bulb burned out one day. Got it replaced under warrenty and I'm back to leaving it on again

hey Rheiy, I'll bet you were relieved to find out it was just the bulb

not only do I leave mine in pwr all the time, but I also keep car in 4th if under 45-50 mph. that way the car's not hunting from 5th to 4th every time I press the pedal a half inch, I think that helps with milage too.
