I have had this problem for a couple of months. When my car goes over rough roads or small bumps, something in the rear axle tends to rattle! I suspect it is something in the brake system. Since I have gone over the same bumps. 1- w/o my foot on brake, I hear the rattling noise. 2- w/ my foot on brake, I DO NOT hear rattling.
I just had my car serviced and they told me it was a loose license plate. I have brought my car in for this same problem, some 3-4 times.
Have anyone had this problem on their 2000 GS 300?
What should I do?
Thanks,

Richard,
Could you be a little more specific as to how you are braking and not hearing the rattle.
Do you brake lightly while going over bumps because if you have the brakes fully depressed you wouldn't be going over anything very fast which may not necessarily mean that it's your brakes.
The rattle you are hearing may be from suspension components. Did you have anything replaced in the rear suspension at all? If not, the liklihood of loose suspension components is very minimal.
It could very well be your license plate. The reason being is that if you are braking over bumps - chances are you are slowing down which will minimize the shock going over a bump and thus not create as much shaking to rattle the license plate. You may want to take off the license plate and frame and test it out to see if you hear a rattle - although carry the plates in the car just in case you get pulled over...Hope this helps.

I am pressing the break pads lightly. I do not need to go real fast in order to hear the rattle. I had the suspension in mind as well! I have not had anything replaced in the rear. I do recall that 6-9 months ago, they had to replace the front passenger shock assembly. For some reason it kept on sticking, however the noise it emanating from the assebmly was quite difference?
Thanks for your input!

Check your rear sway bar. The bussing could be damaged. My 2000 GS400 had similar problems. This repair is cover under your warrantee so please do not delay. Bring you car to the dealership.
