I had the same issue with the lights a few months ago. Suprisingly the problem went away after about two weeks. I am actually bringing my gs to the dealer on wednesday to check a few things but I will also bring up the issue with the lights and let you know the cause.

BTW, A loose gas cap most likely would trigger your check engine light.

Johnny, I actually had a similar electrical "gremlin" a couple months back where instead of turning off automatically, my headlights started BLINKING! I disconnected the battery and began shutting them off manually after driving and it eventually went away. Not saying that disconnecting the battery is going to help you, but it sometimes seems like this type of thing often goes away on it's own? Good luck.

I didn't know about the gas cap?

Not the gas CAP, but the gas DOOR. Not sure if the GS has a sensor for the door... but I also didnt know it had one for the trunk until I found out like you did!
