Default Heater Core Test

If there is a new sort of sweet smell in your car it is probably a leaky heater core. Another test: if you turn on your front defroster with the HVAC set at 78 degrees or higher and the windshield fogs up and stays that way, that is usually another sign that the heater core is leaking. On your windshield will be a film of antifreeze. Also, is your coolant level low?

Again, almost always, a leaky heater core will leave a sweet smell in your car. The wet carpet will feel sticky and slick and your windshield will have a film.

hm...

I'm going to try to blow out the sunroof drains tomorrow and see what happens.

G Cushing - Any chance you have a picture of the box you are talking about?

I will look for the sheet the dealer gave me with the description and get back to you. Call Lexus service, they may be familiar with the problem. I had mine fixed at Westside Lexus in Houston.

I am not sure where the AC condenstation drain is on the GS but on my Honda Accord I had a wet passenger side floor and saw water dripping under the dash. Turns out grasshoppers and bugs would sometimes get up into and clog the drain causing it to back up and drip out the dash on the floor. It happend with my dad in the car once and all you had to do was find the plug underneath th car and pick out the dead bugs.

can this situation cause your check engine light to come on. a few days ago my check engine light came on , then i started smelling something funny, not coolant. i check today and my driverside carpet is wet. i had my heater core changed about 9 months ago. the car still runs good and smooth. can any one chime in.
