Default Leaking Power Steering - Please Advise

Hi guys, I had some work done today on my 99 GS400 and the tech said that my car is leaking power steering and therefore the power steering pump should be replaced.

My question is - is this a common problem on GS4 and is it fixed only by replacing the pump (the pump itself is around $400) or there could be a problem with something other then the pump.

Thanks in advance.

The most neglected fluid on these cars is the powersteering fluid. It should be cherry red in color. If it is not, it is time to change it or else there will be more threads like this. Good luck with the fix

Default leak

Two questions:

1. How is Lucas gonna help when there is a leak?

2. The color of the fluid that I always add is clear and the fluid is leaking. So where most likely is leaking from and what should be done to fix it.

Thanks

You've been using the wrong fluid. That could be the culprit as to why you are having a leak. Our cars require Dexron/Mercon ATF for the powersteering, not power steering fluid. I use Amsoil universal ATF in mine. I have no idea about the Lucus stuff in the pwr steering
